Sodium Antimonate

Antimony can be found in nature, either in the form of oxides and sulfides, or in association with other metals. It is employed in alloys or in the form of oxides. It is mainly used as a flame retardant in textiles and plastics, or as a fining and decolouring agent in glass.

Umicore Precious Metals Refining has a production capacity of about 6,000 tonnes per year of sodium antimonate, which is produced as a powder.

Aggregate for concrete

The slag, the remainder of our process, is used in the construction industry, e.g. as an additive for concrete or in dyke fortification projects. Our slags are used as a substitute for gravel in the concrete. Our yearly production is 100,000 tonnes of which a part is sold as 4.32 mm (used for construction, roads, and the like). Another part is sold as dyke fill.
